On October 23, 2023, Consul General Liu Hongmei Attended the Openning Ceremony of the Workshop cum Structured Learning Visit on “Accelerating Development of Regional Logistics Channels and Transportation Infrastructure for the Lancang-Mekong Region in the Context of the China-Laos-Thailand Railway” and delivered a speech. Government officials from trade and investment, transportation, foreign affairs and customs departments of all six Lancang-Mekong countries participated. 

Consul General Liu introduced the outcomes of the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. She emphasized that as a docking project between the BRI and Laos' strategy to convert itself from a landlocked country to a land-linked hub, the China-Laos Railway has played a significant role in promoting cooperation between China and ASEAN as well as in Lancang-Mekong subregion since its operation. Not long ago, leaders of both China and Thailand reached major consensus to promote China-Thailand Railway construction and the China-Laos-Thailand Connectivity Development Corridor Outlook. China is willing to joint hands with all relevant parties to inject positive energy into regional development.

The workshop cum structured learning visit is held by Mekong Institute. Participants will also exchange ideas with competent authorities of Thailand and the Lao PDR as well as take the China-Laos Railway to visit special economic zones, logistic parks and railway stations in the Lao PDR.
